How to Prepare for Your Studio Newborn Session

Welcoming a new baby into the world is such a special time, and I’m honored to capture these precious moments for you! To help make your newborn session smooth and stress-free, I’ve put together some helpful information on how to prepare and what to expect.

Scheduling Your Session

Newborn sessions are typically scheduled when the baby is between 1-3 weeks old, as this is the best time to capture those beautifully curled-up, sleepy poses. If you haven’t already, be sure to reach out as soon as possible before baby is born so we can plan ahead for your session.

What I Provide for the Session

You don’t have to bring anything except yourselves—I provide everything needed for the session, including:

*Props, baby outfits, wraps, and swaddles

*Cozy blankets and backdrops

*Space heater to keep baby warm and comfortable

Everything is carefully selected to create timeless, artistic images of your little one.

How to Prepare Baby for the Session

To encourage a smooth and relaxed session, here are a few things you can do ahead of time:

*Keep baby awake for about an hour before the session. This helps them be extra sleepy once they arrive.

*Feed baby right before the session. A full tummy makes for a happy, sleepy baby, which allows us to get those dreamy, curled-up poses.

*Bring a pacifier, even if baby doesn’t use one regularly. A pacifier is a great tool to help soothe baby in between poses, making the session smoother. I usually use it while setting up a pose and then remove it right before taking the shot.

Mom’s Wardrobe & Special Portraits

Moms are welcome to wear any of the beautiful gowns from my collection, which are designed to flatter all body types and look stunning in portraits. These gowns are not just for maternity—they work beautifully for newborn sessions as well! Some moms love to wear the same gown they wore for their maternity session to create a gorgeous before-and-after memory with their baby.

Including Family in the Session

Your whole family is welcome to be part of this special moment! I have a large studio space, and I love incorporating family portraits into newborn sessions. Parents, siblings, and even grandparents are invited to join. These are once-in-a-lifetime moments that will be cherished for years to come.

Newborn Safety & Experience

Newborn photography requires specialized training beyond general photography, as babies need to be handled and posed with

extreme care. Rest assured, your little one is in good hands! I have undergone extensive newborn safety training, and as a mother of four children, I have plenty of experience working with babies and ensuring they are comfortable and safe throughout the session.

What If Baby is Fussy?

It’s completely normal for babies to be a little fussy or need breaks during the session. Please don’t stress if your baby cries or needs extra cuddles—we allow plenty of time for soothing, feeding, and comforting baby as needed. Newborn sessions are designed to be relaxed and slow-paced, giving us the flexibility to work around your baby’s needs.

Bringing Your Own Ideas

While I follow a tried-and-true workflow for poses, I always welcome any special ideas or sentimental items you’d like to include in the session. If you have a meaningful heirloom, a special outfit, or a favorite theme in mind, just let me know—I’d love to incorporate it into your session!

Final Thoughts

I want your newborn session to be a joyful, stress-free experience where you can relax and soak in these precious early days with your baby. With a little preparation and an open mind, we will create timeless images that you’ll treasure forever.

If you have any questions before your session, don’t hesitate to reach out. I can’t wait to capture these sweet moments for your family!
