The Family Session Experience

A family portrait session is a wonderful way to capture the love and connection within your family. Whether you choose to have your session in my studio or outdoors at a beautiful location, I will work with you to create timeless images that showcase your family in the best light. Choosing Your Location

For outdoor sessions, we will schedule the session within the hour before sunset to take advantage of the beautiful soft lighting and the opportunity to capture stunning golden-hour images. If you prefer an indoor session, my studio provides a controlled environment with the option for outfit changes or themed setups, such as Christmas or other seasonal styles.

Including the Whole Family

All family members are welcome in your session, including grandparents and even pets! I also love doing extended multi-family sessions that include siblings, cousins, and grandparents. These sessions are a great way to capture the generations together, making for cherished keepsakes—especially around the holidays.

Planning and Scheduling

Family sessions can be scheduled at any time of the year, but keep in mind that fall and spring are particularly busy seasons. If you have a preferred date, I recommend booking in advance to secure your spot.

What to Expect During the Session

During your session, we will go through a variety of poses, starting with full family portraits and then moving into different combinations such as just the kids, just the parents, and even individual shots of each child if desired. I guide you through natural, relaxed posing to ensure you look your best while capturing genuine moments of love and connection.

What to Wear for Your Session

Choosing your outfits in advance is an important part of planning for your family portrait session. Think about a cohesive color scheme for the whole family. If you’re planning to print a large family portrait to hang in your home, consider colors that will complement your home’s decor. Neutral colors always photograph best, as they create a timeless and elegant look. Try to avoid very dark colors or bright white, as they can sometimes be too harsh in photos. Many families find it helpful for mom to choose her outfit first and then coordinate everyone else’s clothing around her choice.
